july/august 2026

hello friends!

i hope you are feeling connected and grounded today, and a little calm after spending time in a mindful moment while reading your dreamy kalam mail.

this month, no new playlist. if you have shabads that feel relevant to the beauty of kudrat, please send and i will share with the mail club sangat!

here is the shabad that the artwork is illustrating:

disclaimer: i do not write and share any gurbani written in gurmukhi on your letters and opt for english transliterations of any lines of gurbani i share. gurbani should always be treated and kept with respect. i include gurbani as a part of much of my artwork, so please keep that with the satkaar/respect gurbani deserves. the letters are less important, so i keep gurbani in its original form off of them and share the shabads here for you to read and do your own research on.

i do want to address the joint edition, and the delayed mail club schedule. i sent an email to all the email addresses i have for you all, so this may be a reiteration for you if you read it previously. if you did not receive a note, let me know and i’ll add you to the list.

as i shared before, i had a very long chronic-pain flare-up with my fibromyalgia in june, and had to amend the summer schedule and send your mail later to allow me time to heal back to baseline. i admit now that i attempted to do too much in a shorter amount of time than usual by trying to catch up and send summer mail club editions with 2-3 weeks in between each. this work is meant to be created with love and intention and not urgency, and that pace turned out to be unsustainable for me.

with that said, i want to put this delay behind us. to ameliorate the situation, you’ll receive a joint july/august issue to finish off the summer, and then i’ll be sending september’s edition on schedule in mid-september.

if you pay for your subscription monthly, you will receive a refund for august, and if you paid upfront for 6 or 12 months, your subscription end-date will simply be moved and you will still receive a whole 6 or 12 months.

in gratitude, you’ll be receiving an extra item in this dreamy kalam letter (a tabla sticker) and you also have 20% off in my shopuntil the end of august (extending this for you all to the end of septmber) - code:SUMMERPENPAL20

thank you again for your kindness in bearing with me and allowing me to take my time as i needed this summer to heal and come back whole. it is not lost on me how lucky i am to be able to share my work with you every month, and to have found such a generous community of support.

————————

& here is a glossary for terms used in the letter. i will do my best to explain words in a way that is accessible & simplified. bhul chuk maaf // please forgive me for any mistakes, and please correct me. if you want more context to any words, you are welcome to reach out. hope this helps!

ਮੂਲ ਮੰਤਰ // mool man-tar: the beginning of all of gurbani, the root of sikh scripture. this is the first thing one reads in the guru granth sahib. the shabad emcompasses the ultimate truths laid out by guru shabad.

ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ // kart-aa pur-kh: the creative being, a name for the divine

ਕੁਦਰਤ // kud-rat: the creative power of the divine

ਬੇਅੰਤ // bey-ant: limitless, boundless; in reference to the boundless nature of the divine

ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ // bal-i-haa-ree: to surrender yourself

ਰਹਾਉ // ra-ha-o: to pause and reflect. this comes up regularly in gurbani, sikh scripture. particular lines will be punctuated with this to signal that this is a line to pay extra attention to and to reflect on. often this will be the principal line of the shabad. the line in this month’s artowork is a “rahao line.”

feel free to ask if you have any questions, share if you have any suggestions — and please do send me feedback! i love to hear what you all think of the work every month. it means the most to me when we get to connect and you engage with the art.

with love,

hk.
