Shaheed Bibi Harsharan Kaur
$44.95
A rare artistic depiction of the last shaheed (martyr) of the Battle of Chamkaur Sahib, Bibi (Har)Sharan Kaur. After the battle was over and over 40 Sikhs attained shaheedi (martyrdom) fighting Moghul forces, Chamkaur di ghari (the fort of Chamkaur Sahib) was abandoned as Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Bhai Daya Singh, Bhai Dharam Singh, and Baba Maan Singh escaped. Because there were not enough sheets to cover each body of every shaheed, Guru Sahib had to choose to leave them all uncovered and on the battle field, even the bodies of his own two sons.
.
Bibi (Har)Sharan Kaur heard of the battle and could not bear the thought of her brothers left on the battlefield, so she decided to do the antim sanskar (the final funeral rites) of all the shaheeds who gave their lives. She cremated and did Kirtan Sohila for each of her 40+ brothers in the dead of night, knowing that if she is caught she will suffer the same fate.
.
Bibi (Har)Sharan Kaur finished cremating every single shaheed before the light of the funeral pyre caught the attention the Moghul soldiers. They captured her and threw her into the funeral pyre for her rebellion. She attained shaheedi with her fellow Sikh brothers and is remembered as the final shaheed of the Battle of Chamkaur Sahib. May her bravery inspire us to rebel and fight out of love for our people and for our Guru.
